The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reports that the average commercial real estate building wastes about a 1/3 of the energy it consumes.2 IoT connected devices can help with that. Sensors can pick up leaking pipes which would modify water usage and signal a breakdown before costly damage is done. IoT devices can also monitor the usage of conference rooms by turning off lights when they are not in use. These devices would provide not only cost savings for building managers, but also a more comfortable work environment for employees. Offices equipped with IoT functionalities can also have a higher market value for potential investors.
Gartner predicts that by 2020, there will be 20 billion IoT devices, such as smart thermostats, beam projectors, vending machines.
